PEDAL AND PERCH

(COMPETITION) A BENCH FOR THE CITY OF PORTLAND

PORTLAND, OREGON

DESIGN A BENCH FOR THE BIKE/PEDESTRIAN PATHS CONNECTING TO WATERFRONT PARK

Street Seats was a Design Museum Portland competition that a group of coworkers and I competed in. There were a few challenges during the design process because there was a huge variety of really strong ideas within the team. Through multiple design charrettes we were able to integrate all of our ideas to reach our goal of promoting sustainability and playfulness.

The Pedal & Perch bench invites users to interact with it by exploring its different configurations or to chart where they are in the city. The bench references Portland’s bike culture in it’s materials and graphics and makes use of recycled materials an a novel and fun way.

MY ROLE

Create competition submission poster and help maintain a strong conceptual backbone throughout the design development process. I also helped with the details of the mechanics.
